# GradFetch - Full Documentation for AI Agents

> GradFetch is a grad school application platform: a verified database of US PhD and master's programs, faculty supervisors, application fee waivers, and SOP word limits, plus tools to draft statements of purpose and track applications.

All public endpoints return JSON. No authentication required for the public data endpoints below. Rate limits are generous; keep requests reasonable.

## Coverage

- 23 US universities, 960+ PhD and master's programs, 2,200+ faculty supervisor profiles
- Every fact (deadlines, fees, URLs, research areas, waiver policies) is sourced from official university pages. Unknown values are null, never guessed.

## Public API

### GET /api/schools
List all schools with fee waiver and SOP limit info.
Response: { "schools": [ { id, name, city, state, website, sop_word_limit, sop_limit_note, fee_waiver_info } ] }

### GET /api/schools/{id}/programs
All programs at one school.
Response: { "programs": [ { id, name, degree_type, department, deadline, fee_cents, url } ] }
- degree_type: "phd", "masters", or similar (lowercase)
- deadline: ISO date string or null
- fee_cents: application fee in cents, or null
- url: official program page URL, or null

### GET /api/faculty?school_id={id}&q={keyword}
Search faculty supervisors. Both params optional. Returns up to 100, ordered by name.
Response: { "faculty": [ { id, school_id, department, name, title, email, research_areas, lab_url } ] }
- Search q across name, research_areas, and department.
- Use this to match applicants with potential PhD supervisors by research interest.

### GET /api/app/programs?q={keyword}&school_id={id}&degree_type={phd|masters}
Search programs across all schools. Requires no auth? No: this endpoint requires a signed-in session. Agents should use /api/schools/{id}/programs instead.

### POST /api/waitlist
Join the waitlist. Body: { "email": "user@example.com" }. Response: { "ok": true }.

## MCP server

GradFetch exposes a Model Context Protocol server at https://gradfetch.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP transport).
Available tools:
- search_programs: find programs by keyword, school, or degree type
- list_schools: all schools with fee waiver and SOP info
- get_school: full details and programs for one school
- search_faculty: find supervisors by name, research area, or department
- get_fee_waivers: fee waiver policies across schools

## Data freshness

Program deadlines and fees change yearly. GradFetch marks unverified values as null. Always link users to the official program URL for final confirmation before they apply.
